Required saving vs your current plan
Set a goal, current savings, target timeline and your current weekly, biweekly or monthly contribution. The result separates the nominal target gap from the amount your current plan is projected to reach, estimates the arrival period, and shows the contribution required for the selected frequency and timing. Monthly end-of-period contributions remain the default. Optionally treat the entered goal as today's dollars and grow it by your own inflation assumption.
FAQ
What does it calculate?
It calculates the contribution required per selected period, the nominal gap between target and current savings, and the amount your current contribution plan is projected to reach at the target date. It also estimates when that current plan reaches the target.
What do frequency and contribution timing change?
Choose weekly, biweekly or monthly contributions, then choose beginning or end of each period. Monthly end-of-period is the default and preserves the standard month-end contribution formula: interest first, contribution second. Beginning-of-period contributions earn interest during that period.
What is the progress ring?
It shows current savings as a percentage of the target used by the projection. If inflation adjustment is on, the ring uses the inflation-adjusted amount needed at the target date.
How does target inflation adjustment work?
Turn it on when the entered goal is in today’s dollars. The calculator grows that goal by your inflation assumption through the target date, while the separate nominal gap remains target minus current savings.
Can I add a calendar reminder?
Yes. Choose a recurring monthly check-in sequence or a single target-date milestone, then download the .ics file. The monthly option creates one monthly recurrence through the selected timeline; the milestone option creates one event on the target date.
